Wes Smith (Pinecrest, Elon), football
Will provide color for Pinecrest football this fall. He is a former quarterback ('94-'96) of the Patriots, who led the Southeastern 4A conference in passing and scoring during the '95 and '96 seasons. As the signal caller for the '96 team, he led the team to the 4A state playoffs along with being named the
all-conference quarterback and kicker.

Wes continued his playing career at Elon University in Burlington, NC yet in a different sport. He was a three- year starter in left field for the Phoenix baseball team that knocked off #1 Clemson, #5 South Carolina, #10 Wake Forest and #20 East Carolina while falling one out shy of recording a three-game sweep at defending national champion Miami. His 2002 Phoenix squad received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and competed in the Clemson Regional.

In 2002 Wes graduated with a BS in physical education and a minor in business management. He and his wife Anna Franklin, former Patriot soccer player and '00 graduate, recently moved home to Pinehurst after living in Raleigh for six years.

Burgin Beale (Elon), football
Coach Burgin Beale has joined the MooreSportsRadio.com broadcast team for color commentary of Pinecrest football.

A former Patriots head football coach from 1980-1988, Coach Beale is the winningest football coach in Pinecrest history. His teams went 42-50 overall, including an 8-4 mark 1987 and a 7-3 record in 1982. His 1987 squad also became the first in school history to win a playoff game (over Fayetteville's E.E. Smith).

In 1978, Coach Beale was inducted into the Elon University Hall of Fame. A football and baseball standout for the then Fighting Christians, he held the school's career record with 38 touchdown passes in 844 attempts a record that stood for 40 years. From 1965-1968, he amassed 5,611 passing yards, the second most in Elon history. After graduation, Coach Beale played semi-pro football for the Burlington Bears, where he once threw 53 pass attempts in a game on Nov. 16, 1974.

Adam Carpenter (Pinecrest, Sandhills Comm. College), soccer, football, basketball
Throughout his four years at Pinecrest, Adam Carpenter developed a passion for following Patriot sports. Fall, winter, and spring he would attend whatever sport was in season at the time.

In 2003, his senior year, Adam took part in what he describes as "the greatest class of Pinecrest "Superfans" to ever bleed green and gold," a class that changed the whole landscape at Patriot athletic events. The average student fan was totally revamped and taught how to "cheer" from the stands.

"We made going to games at Pinecrest 'cool' again," he said.

His passion for following Patriots sports continues to grow some 10 years after he first walked through the front door of Pinecrest. After games and boards of NC Preps and the NC-soccer forum. Known as "Pinecrest Patriot" to the online community, he is often looked to for of knowledge of Patrior talking PHS sports as the.

Adam is also the webmaster for the Pinecrest baseball site
(www.pinecresthsbaseball.com) and he has a site dedicated to the Pinecrest
boys' and girls' soccer programs
(www.angelfire.com/nc3/entonces/pcsoccer/pcsoccer.html).

"My ultimate vision is to develop a site dedicated to Pinecrest Athletics as
a whole, serving all the sports programs at PHS," he said.
